VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Timotheos Foundation is a local Malawian Christian charity organization whose primary objective is to support and care for orphans and other vulnerable children in Malawi. The Foundation was established on 1 September 2011 and was officially registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act of Malawi on 3 July 2012. The organization is affiliated with the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and the NGO Board of Malawi. Timotheos Foundation is seeking to recruit competent, committed, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and God-fearing Malawian nationals to fill the positions detailed below;

Position                                 : Assistant Accountant

Reporting to                         : Manager Finance and Administration

Location                                : Head Office, Blantyre

Status of Employment         : 1 year contract and renewable

Overall responsibilities

The Assistant Accountant supports the accountant in processing and reconciling financial transactions, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with finance procedures.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Administer petty cash and cash advances and liquidations.
  • Posting payments and receipts into QuickBooks.
  • Support preparation of bank and petty cash reconciliations.
  • Prepare bank payment vouchers and ensure proper approvals.
  • Prepare and initiate electronic payments via FDH One Click.
  • Assist in preparing and processing journal entries.
  • Support payroll adjustments for taxes and pensions, loan recovery and Mudi Sacco deductions.
  • Organize payslips and disburse to the employees.
  • Prepare school summaries from Mpamba account and send them to Accounts Assistant
  • Reconcile income from school fees, farm operations, and other sources.
  • Assist in quarterly financial report preparation.
  • Assist in providing support for external audit processes by providing required records.
  • Assist in disbursement of cash when required.
  • Ensure proper filing of vouchers and supporting documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Accountant or Manager Finance and Administration.

  7. Analytical Thinking: Capable of analyzing financial data, identifying discrepancies, and providing solutions.
  8. Proactiveness: Takes initiative in identifying and implementing financial and administrative improvements.

Education & work qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
  • At least 2–3 years’ work experience in NGO related accounting.
