1.0 Organizational Background
Find Your Feet (FYF) is a local NGO dedicated to working with poor, rural communities to create lasting solutions to poverty. FYF envisions a world in which everyone has the right to build a future free from hunger and poverty and its mission is to mobilise local knowledge and skills, and promote the ownership and use of natural resources by poor rural communities in finding sustainable solutions to hunger, poverty and discrimination.

FY implements development projects with support from a wide range of donors including the World Food Programme (WFP); UNICEF, IFAD and Imagine Worldwide through the Malawi Government, The Royal Norwegian Embassy and NORAD through the NCA/DCA, Kindernothilfe, PLAN International-Malawi, UK Foundations and Trusts and many others across all the regions of Malawi.

The organization is now seeking a well-qualified and experienced person to fill the position of a Trustee whose term of office expired.

2.0 Key duties and responsibilities
The Trustee will be responsible for providing the organization with sound governance, fiduciary and strategic oversight and direction, ensuring that the public’s trust is upheld, the mission addresses a community need, the practices are ethical and legal requirements are met. He/she will also be responsible for assuring the financial integrity and solvency of the organization and establishing procedures to safeguard the organization from fraud and risk. The Trustee under the Finance and Audit Subcommittee will provide strategic guidance, oversight, and expert advice on financial management, risk assessment, internal controls, and compliance. This position supports FYF’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and prudent financial management.

3.0 Specific responsibilities

3.1 Financial Oversight & Compliance

  • Provide guidance on financial policies, internal controls, and risk management frameworks.
  • Review and monitor the organization’s financial performance, ensuring alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Assess the effectiveness of financial management systems, budgeting processes, and cash flow management.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, donor requirements, and internal policies.

3.2 Audit & Risk Management

  • Support the development and implementation of risk management strategies.
  • Review audit reports, management letters, and financial statements, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Advise on internal and external audit processes and help ensure timely execution.
  • Identify potential financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

3.3 Governance & Advisory

  • Actively participate in Finance and Audit Subcommittee meetings and provide expert insights.
  • Support the Board in making sound financial decisions based on data and risk assessments.
  • Advocate for financial sustainability and efficient resource allocation within FYF.
  • Ensure that financial policies align with good governance practices and international accounting standards.

3.4 Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA) is highly desirable
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial management, auditing, risk management, or governance.
  • Knowledge of NGO financial management, donor-funded projects, and grant compliance.
  • Experience in reviewing financial statements and audit reports.
  • Strong understanding of Malawi’s financial regulations and reporting requirements.

3.6 Terms and Conditions
This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses related to board duties may be covered. Expected to attend quarterly subcommittee meetings and contribute remotely when required. The term of office for Board members is three (3) years effective from date of appointment and may be appointed for a further 3-year term making a total of 6 years maximum.
