Safety and Security Manager (SSM)
Peace Corps, a development agency of the United States Government, has an immediate opening for a Safety and Security Manager (SSM). The role of the SSM is to support security-related functions (i.e. site inspection and selection, Volunteer site visits, emergency planning, incident response, etc.) that are critical to post operations and Volunteer support. The Office of Safety and Security provides technical oversight of security related matters and SSM professional development.
The SSM has primary responsibility for managing appropriate safety and security systems and procedures in compliance with stated policies and develops risk mitigation and response strategies to implement the Post security program. The SM works under the guidance of the Peace Corps Country Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid United States security certification with US Mission Malawi
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related and relevant field.
- Experience with safety and security programs of similar NGO/Development Agencies/Embassies or
Overseas Mission - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other organizations, including local law enforcement, criminal justice, emergency management and other NGO/Development Agencies/ Overseas Missions
- Ability to analyze crime trends and other risks and propose mitigation strategies;
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
- Ability to conduct training and give presentations in both English and local language.
- Demonstrated English proficiency, both written and oral
- Demonstrated Malawi local language fluency
- Ability to work at an intermediate level with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) and experience managing data in a database
- At least 3 years working within communities, in roles that promote safety and security, with cultural sensitivity and an understanding of local dynamics.
- At least 3 vears experience living or working in multicultural environments, demonstrating adaptability, respect, and the ability to navigate complex cultural contexts.
- At least 1 year of experience managing initiatives, coordinating logistics, and ensuring the successful implementation of training or support programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assess risks, mediate conflicts, and provide immediate and long-term support for volunteers and communities facing safety and security challenges.
Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support to a person in crisis, including those who have experienced trauma, crime, or safety concerns.
