JOB SUMMARY

Zammimba Churches of Christ Church is planning to embark on a Child Development Program in partnership with Compassion International – Malawi Office. This is a ministry that the church will aim at releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name through holistic child development interventions.

As a way of enhancing the capacity of the church to run this ministry successively, we plan to hire the services of a vibrant and self-motivated person who will work as a Program Officer.

The Program Officer shall be a local staff who is given the authority and responsibility to direct day-to-day activities, supervise others in the achievement of those activities, as well as regularly interact with Compassion. S/he is the team leader of the project staff who is expected to provide knowledge, guidance and technical skills to children, project committee, caregivers and other stakeholders for holistic child development.

POSITION: PROGRAM OFFICER (PO)

Location: Balaka

Core Duties & Responsibilities.

  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside the Church. Must be a Christian role model for the children, their families and communities.
  • Working within one’s influence serves as an advocate for children who live in poverty and are not able to speak out for themselves. This includes being informed about issues of children and influence others to greater involvement on the children’s behalf.
  • Directs the day-to-day running of the activities of the project for effective implementation of the program by:
  1. Offering leadership to all Program staff and volunteers. This will involve mentoring, coaching, supervising, coordinating and evaluating them on their assigned roles, including monitoring their attendance and taking the lead in organizing spiritual formation activities.
  2. Taking a lead in the preparation and implementation of agreed upon partner plans and commitments.
  3. Ensuring that each child is offered individual child attention through home/school visits, beneficiary assessments, curriculum, extracurricular activities etc.
  4. Supporting the church leaders in the process of beneficiary identification, slots management and transitions.
  5. Working with stakeholders to assess, identify and update, beneficiary needs, ICP needs and training needs for effective implementation of the program.
  6. Working with the church in implementing the commitments of the partnership agreement.
  7. Working with the church, mobilizes resources through generation of proposals for possible funding from Compassion’s complimentary interventions (CIVs), establishes and maintains networks with other likeminded agencies and government and utilizes other methodologies e.g. Qavah for partner development and beneficiary outcomes.
  • Ensures that all funds are used for their intended purpose and in adherence to set policies and standards. This will include ensuring the maintenance of accurate books of accounts, appropriate accountability, proper project assets management, financial reporting and meeting all statutory obligations.
  • Monitors and evaluates the program through:
    1. Preparation and submission of scheduled reports to the church leadership and Compassion.
    2. Review of Partner plans and budgets, PMAT action plans, beneficiary assessments, and needs fulfilment assessments.
    3. Tracking the utilization of audit recommendations, assessment results, reports and Compassion’s recommendations.
  • Discharges such other duties as will be assigned.

Knowledge, skills, responsibilities required.

  • Must be a mature born-again Christian with a sound testimony.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, a team builder and willing to take initiative.
  • Must have computer skills.
  • Experience and current knowledge of Early Childhood Development interventions or homebased programming is desirable.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Working ability to apply and adapt established accounting procedures to a variety of accounting transactions, problems and situations.
  • Good written communication skills and strong verbal communication skills. Intermediate English ability is preferred.
  • Must hold a Diploma in social work, social science or any related disciplines. Those with a related degree will have an added advantage.
  • Skills in Project planning and management will be an added advantage.
  • Formal training in counseling and child development will be an added advantage.
  • Previous supervisory experience desired.
  • Ability and desire to learn new things.
  • Be willing to work in remote area in Phalombe district
  • Age: 25-45.

Working conditions

Shall work at a Local Church Project and will also include visiting homes of beneficiaries to provide training and support. Travels for correspondence, conferences and training should be expected. Will Sign and abide by a statement of commitment to child protection.
