Blantyre International University (BIU) invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following positions tenable at its main campus.
VACANCY 2: Library Commissionaire
The Library Commissionaire will be responsible for maintaining security, order, and discipline within the library premises. The successful candidate will ensure that library rules and regulations are followed while providing support services to library users.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining security and order within the library environment.
- Monitoring entry and exit of users and ensuring compliance with library regulations.
- Assisting in the control of noise and ensuring a conducive reading environment.
- Checking library materials at entry and exit points to prevent loss or damage.
- Providing basic guidance and directions to library users.
- Reporting any suspicious activities or incidents to the University Librarian or relevant authorities.
- Supporting library staff in routine operations when required.
- Ensuring proper opening and closing procedures of the library.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
- Prior experience in a security or a similar role is desirable.
- Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and discipline.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
- Basic customer service skills.
