Job description

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop, review, and implement HR policies, procedures, and systems in line with Malawi labour laws, the Employment Act, and best practice.
• Provide expert advice to management and staff on employment law, statutory compliance, disciplinary matters, and dispute resolution.
• Lead recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes to attract and retain qualified talent.
• Manage employee relations, grievance handling, and disciplinary processes in accordance with the law and company policy.
• Oversee performance management, staff appraisals, and employee development programmes.
• Coordinate payroll administration, employee benefits, and compensation structures in liaison with Finance.
• Ensure sound corporate governance practices are upheld across all HR and administrative functions.
• Advise the Board and Management on HR risk, labour relations, and workforce planning matters.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR management information systems.
• Coordinate training, capacity building, and succession planning initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with occupational safety, health, and welfare regulations.
• Represent the company in labour-related matters before relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations Court, as required.
• Oversee general administration functions, including office management, records management, fleet and asset administration, and procurement of office supplies and services.
• Manage staff welfare, housing, and logistics arrangements at the farm site.
• Ensure compliance with statutory administrative requirements, licenses, permits, and contracts relevant to the company’s operations.
• Serve as the company’s key liaison on local community and chief relations, including engagement with Traditional Authorities (TAs), local leaders, and neighbouring communities.
• Lead or support the resolution of disputes and grievances arising between the company and neighbouring communities or local leadership structures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution. A postgraduate qualification and/or professional HR certification (e.g. IPMM/MIM) will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of three (3) years post-qualification working substantial experience of senior management in a human resources and admin management role, preferably in an agricultural, agribusiness, or commercial environment.
• Vast and thorough knowledge of Malawi Labour Laws and the Employment Act, and demonstrated experience applying them in a corporate setting.
• Sound knowledge and practical experience in corporate governance and organizational management.
• Demonstrated experience in payroll, employee relations, recruitment, and performance management systems.
