Position: Highway Engineer
No. of Posts: 2 (1 for each site)
About the Project:
This major road upgrading project is a vital investment in Malawi’s transportation infrastructure. We are seeking experienced and dynamic Highway Engineers to supervise construction, ensure quality delivery, and help shape the success of the works through excellent engineering leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (Master’s in Transportation or Highway Engineering is an added advantage)
- Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in highway/geometric engineering, with at least 2 years in a similar site-based role
- Solid experience working under *FIDIC-based contracts* and *SATCC Specifications
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar design/review tools
- Strong understanding of road construction processes (earthworks, alignment, subbase/base layers, surfacing, drainage, signage)
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Excellent analytical, coordination, and communication skills
- Valid professional registration is an added asset
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day site supervision of highway and geometric works in line with drawings and specifications
- Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with timelines, quality standards, and safety regulations
- Review and validate geometric designs, pavement layers, profiles, and cross-sections
- Prepare and issue Requests for Inspection (RFI)* for completed works
- Ensure proper implementation of road designs, levels, and materials per contract standards
- Collaborate with surveyors, planners, and quality engineers to ensure coordinated execution
- Review contract drawings, detect inconsistencies or clashes, and propose practical amendments
- Ensure construction follows correct alignment, camber, superelevation, and transition curves
- Prepare and submit as-built drawings and engineering progress documentation
- Provide guidance and technical support to contractors and subcontractors
- Attend site meetings and contribute to problem-solving and technical discussions
