Head of Finance and Administration (Volunteer Position)
Location: Mchinji District, Malawi

Reporting: To the Station Manager
Position Overview:
Mudziwathu Radio Station is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the volunteer position of Head of Finance and Administration. The successful candidate will oversee the financial and administrative operations of the radio station, ensuring efficient management of resources and compliance with organizational goals. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth and impact of a community-driven radio station in Mchinji District.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
- Oversee all financial activities including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ensure proper financial controls and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
- Monitor cash flow, prepare financial statements, and advise the station’s leadership on financial health.
- Develop and maintain financial planning tools and reports, providing regular updates to the management team and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute the station’s strategic plan.
- Prepare annual budgets, monitor budget performance, and provide recommendations for cost efficiency.
Administration and Operations:
- Support the smooth day-to-day operations of the radio station.
- Ensure effective management of office resources, including equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to human resources, procurement, and administrative functions.
- Provide logistical support for radio programs, events, and community outreach activities.
NGO Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and donor requirements.
- Manage grant funding processes, including preparing financial reports for donors and stakeholders.
- Prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring that all records and financial documentation are accurate and up-to-date.
Staff Capacity Building:
- Identify training needs and assist in capacity-building initiatives for team members.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to track progress and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: A degree in Accounting, Internal Auditing, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: At least five years of experience in finance and administration, with a proven track record of managing financial operations and resources.
- NGO Experience: At least three years of experience working within an NGO or similar nonprofit organization, with familiarity with donor funding processes, grant management, and compliance.
- Location: Preferably residing in or near Mchinji District, Malawi.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of financial management, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a team and foster a collaborative environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Chichewa (preferred).
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
Additional Information:
- This is a volunteer position. The successful candidate will be given an agreed monthly honorarium and will gain valuable experience in nonprofit financial management and administration, while contributing to the growth and development of Mudziwathu Radio Station.
- The volunteer will be expected to commit to a minimum duration of one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.
