CLERK OF WORKS – INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANTS (15 POSITIONS)

AWW Limited is a multi-disciplinary design consulting firm established in 2017 as a private limited liability company. The company’s headquarters are at The Residence at Chalendewa in Lilongwe, The company has successfully completed several projects in the region as a design consultant and as an association or joint venture partner.

AWW Limited offers core services in the field of Bult Environment, which includes Architectural Design, Master Planning, Feasibility Studies and Environmental & Social Impact Assessments.

AWW Limited seeks to hire highly experienced and skilled fifteen (15) individuals for the position of Clerk of Works to undertake supervision of construction projects that are currently under way in Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhata-Bay, Kasungu, Mchinji, Lilongwe, Salima, Mangochi, Zomba, Blantyre and Chiradzulu Districts.

The individuals should have the following qualifications and attributes:

  1. Diploma in Architecture/Civil Engineering/Construction Management/Construction Technology or Quantity Surveying
  2. Not less than 5 years’ experience as a Clerk of Works
  3. High level of integrity
  4. Ability to write reports
  5. Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Computer Aided Design Software as well as Information Technology savvy.

The Individual Consultants will be required to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-contract meetings with contractors before operations commence on site.
  • Furnish for the use of the contractors all necessary geodetic data for the location of the project components.
  • Verify the accuracy of the setting out works and levels and take all measurements required for the determination of final quantities.
  • Check the contractor’s work schedule and any other programmes before submission to the Project
  • Manager.
  • Assess the adequacy of all inputs such as materials and labour provided by the contractor and his method of work in relation to specifications and the required rate of progress and when required recommend appropriate action for rectification.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports for the use of the Project Manager on the progress of works, the contractor’s performance, the quality of works and the project’s financial status.
  • Compute quantities for approval of accepted works including equipment and check and make recommendations to the Project Manager of the contractor’s monthly and final payment certificates.
  • Examine and make recommendations to the Project Manager on all claims from the contractor for extension of time, extra compensation, work or expenses or other similar matters.
  • Propose and present for approval of the Project Manager any changes in the contract documents the contractor may deem necessary for the completion of the works including information on any effects that the changes may have on the contract amount and the time of completion and prepare all necessary changes/variation orders including alteration of plans, specifications and other details.
  • Inform the Project Manager on problems or potential problems that arise in connection with the construction and present recommendations for possible solutions.
  • Maintain representation on site to ensure that adequate supervision of all works (buildings, civil, structural, electrical and mechanical including equipment installation) are provided at all times during which the contractor is working.
  • Furnish timely assistance and direction to the contractor on all matters related to the interpretation of the contract documents (survey control, quality control, testing etc) and to contract compliance and progress of the project.
    Organise the supervision of the works with proper allocation of responsibilities in case of individual inspectors and supervise their work to ensure effective execution.
  • Prepare and maintain all reports and records required to document the progress of works and the contractor’s performance adequately.
  • Check all contractors’ working drawings and design drawings for temporary works.
  • Organise all testing of materials to ensure that the quality specified in the contract documents is obtained and also see to it that the workmanship achieved meets the appropriate standards required in the codes of practice and specifications applicable to the contract works.
  • Inspect the safety precautions taken at site for permanent and temporary works and ensure that every reasonable measure has been taken to protect life and property.
  • Provide all other tasks not specifically mentioned above, but which are necessary and essential to successfully supervise and control the construction and installation activities in accordance with the terms of contract.
  • Prepare snag list and hand it over to the Consultant for completion of the project.
